Construction Laborers

The laborers load and unload construction materials such as concrete mix, gravel, form panels, stakes, mesh sheets, rebar chairs, spacers, and hand tools. These tasks are performed manually by lifting, carrying, stacking, and positioning materials using only basic hand tools, including shovels, wheelbarrows, buckets, pry bars, and hand carts. Laborers do not operate forklifts, skid steers, telehandlers, or any other material-handling machinery. In preparing the earth for concrete placement, laborers dig and level small areas using shovels, rakes, hand tampers, and plate compactors. Their duties involve digging shallow trenches, removing loose soil, leveling subgrade material, and compacting base aggregate under supervision. Laborers do not operate trenchers, excavators, backhoes, or any powered digging equipment. With respect to strengthening concrete, the laborers’ involvement is strictly limited to incidental, non-skilled handling of reinforcement materials. Their tasks may include lifting, carrying, and placing light wire mesh sheets, rebar chairs, spacers, and similar materials as directed by a supervisor. To avoid any misunderstanding, the employer clarifies that laborers do not cut, bend, tie, secure, splice, fabricate, assemble, construct, or install rebar or rebar cages, nor do they perform layout or structural reinforcement.
