Mechanical Tree Planters

Manual itinerant work machine planting, thinning tree seedlings, applying insecticides and herbicides using equipment, removing brush and vegetation, and seedling pulling to reforest and maintain timberlands. Use equipment in planting and thinning trees, spreading or spraying chemicals, preparing sites for planting, or performing other forestry services. Operate a rubber-tired or crawler-type tractor or other heavy motorized equipment such as a grader, front-end loader, or backhoe. Lubricate equipment, fuel equipment, adjust equipment and make emergency repairs to equipment. Sow seeds, raise and transport seedlings in a tree bag, and discard substandard seedlings. Use a chainsaw, brush blade, or other hand-held equipment to remove excess trees and other vegetation. Determine which immature trees to leave for accelerated growth, depending on spacing, species, size, freedom from disease or other defect, and possible damage to remaining trees. Combat insects, pests, and diseases harmful to trees. Use a backpack sprayer or other hand held tools to spray or inject vegetation with insecticides to kill insects and to protect against disease, and with herbicides to reduce competing vegetation. May chip debris and move slash (wood debris) away from roads, fire trails and remaining trees. Excludes workers cutting mature trees.
